Chinatown/Old Town
Stop Location: PANDORA AVE AT FAN TAN ALLEY
Victoria’s Chinatown, nestled in the heart of Victoria, is a vibrant tapestry of history and culture. As the first Chinatown in Canada and the second oldest in North America, it has been a bustling hub since the mid-19th century, when Chinese immigrants first arrived to seek fortune in the gold rush and later to work on the Canadian Pacific Railway. While Chinatown has changed over time, to include an array of businesses and international cuisines, it remains an enchanting historical neighbourhood. Check out Fan Tan Alley, the narrowest commercial street in North America – once notorious for gambling joints and opium dens. Don’t forget to visit Market Square and other local shops just one street over on Lower Johnson!
